Biography

Myriam Laplante has dreamed of competing at the Olympic Games since she was first invited to participate in a national training camp. She was a member of the Canadian team that finished ninth at the 2013 Pan American Championships, defeating Costa Rica in the final classification match. Laplante achieved a career highlight representing Canada at the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games, helping Canada to a seventh-place finish. She also helped her club team, Handball Champlain, to back-to-back championship seasons in 2017-18 and 2018-19, in addition to winning the league scoring title in 2017-18.

Getting into the Sport: Started playing handball at age 12 when her physical education teacher introduced her to the sport… Other Interests: Earned her Bachelor of Kinesiology in 2013… Works as a coach and kinesiologist… Enjoys travelling, spending time with her dog and doing Crossfit… Odds and Ends: Inspired by short track speed skater Marianne St-Gelais for her humorous personality and determination… Collects fridge magnets from her travels…Favourite motto: ”keep your heap up and put one foot in front of the other one”.
