Day 1 at Lima 2019: Team Canada wins artistic gymnastics team silver
Lima 2019 has officially begun! Following the Opening Ceremony on Friday night, Team Canada kicked off the Games with 6 medals on Day 1.

Team Canada takes artistic gymnastics team silver
Ellie Black, Brooklyn Moors, Shallon Olsen, Victoria Woo and Isabela Onyshko won silver in the artistic gymnastics team final. Canada finished with 106.600 points, 2.05 points ahead of Brazil. The USA won gold with 171.000 points. Black qualified for the individual all-around final and every apparatus final. Woo also qualified for the all-around final while Olsen will join Black in the vault final. Moors qualified for the bars and floor finals.
Team Canada’s first medals of the Games won in squash
Samantha Cornett and Hollie Naughton won Team Canada’s first medals at Lima 2019: bronze in women’s singles squash. Cornett and Naughton fell 3-0 to Team USA’s Olivia Blatchford and Amanda Sobhy, respectively, in the semifinals to take bronze. Both athletes were part of Team Canada’s silver medal-winning team at Toronto 2015 and Cornett successfully repeated her bronze medal performance from the 2015 Games.
Naughton teamed up with Andrew Schnell to win mixed doubles bronze for her second medal of the day.
AJ Assadian earns a historic medal in Poomsae Taekwondo
Assadian won Canada’s first ever Pan Am Games medal in men’s Poomsae Taekwondo on Saturday. He took bronze with a score of 7.390. This is the first time the event has been competed at the Pan Am Games.
Team Canada walks into Lima 2019 looking sharp
Excitement was high Friday night when Team Canada walked into the Lima 2019 Opening Ceremony to officially begin the Games. With men’s field hockey captain and three-time Pan Am Games medallist Scott Tupper leading the squad, Team Canada danced into Lima 2019 with high hopes.
